Do you believe?

Rasta Got Soul / Man may imprison the messenger but the message remains free

A strange thing happened to me recently. I was walking on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, when approaching the vicinity of the court house, a lady standing outside an apartment complex said, “Sir, do you believe that God Almighty is great?” And to her question I promptly replied, “Yes, of course!”

Not so sure where this unexpected discourse was heading, I continued on my journey, but something compelled me to look back. Simultaneously, the lady and I pumped our fists to the heavens, and shouted, “God is great!”

Recently, I learned that those who organized a church were plotting to discharge from their services a person who has worked diligently for them for over a year. There is not a good reason for their decision. It stemmed from a friend of the Board of Directors returning to New York, and they desired to provide her with work at the expense of their current employee. These honor less people, the strongest among them a man of the cloth, stated that they will do whatever they want to do, and exuded a manner that was bereft of compassion. The teachings of God, and every spiritual doctrine that I know, dictate that wrong that is done to the innocent shall return to the unjust. And I believe that even the strongest among the unjust shall hoist with his own petard!

Long ago, David defeated a mighty giant. He conquered his foe because he did not fear what confronted him. David’s faith was in an Almighty God that is so just that he affords the weakest amongst us his protection. A child of God can walk without fear knowing that angels are before and behind him, and on either side of him. Psalm 56, Verses 11-12 state, “This I know, that God is on my side. In God whose word I praise, in Yahweh whose word I praise, in God I put my trust and have no fear; what can mortal man do to me?” Yes, God Almighty is great!
