They sat around the table planning another strategy. The truth is they have not been good at planning anything meaningful in a long time. If they were any good America would not be in this unholy mess. The talent had long left the boardroom — replaced by family members and friends – continuing that incestuous relationship that only results in something being created that is deformed and practically useless. On the outside, war was being waged on the middle class – the backbone of American ingenuity – and all these Knights could do is haggle among themselves. Each day that passes another job is lost, another home is foreclosed, and another guy in Ohio or California this close to murdering his family, but that is more reason to delay. If the middle class disappears, maybe more would be left to divi-up among the Knights so they drag their feet – maybe tonight will be the day for the stimulus package to pass – maybe Friday, who knows, which day, let’s call it Sum-day. That is when the sum of all they are going to share will be tallied, and the Knights of Corporate America will be given the lump-sum and perhaps, that true era of trickledown economics will begin.
Each of the Knights has a connection to another Knight somewhere in this vast land of many fiefdoms and boardrooms. Each has an interest to preserve. The Television says $900 billion is the number, and that is a lot of money. Enough to make a Knight haggle with his grandmother, haggle with his mother, haggle with his siblings, haggle with a friend — and more reason to draw his sword on another Knight in the Boardroom.
